The National Emerging Industries Agreement (PNEI) identified increasing demand for skilled workers in a range of industries. These include off-shoring, automobile, textile, agro-business, aeronautics and electronics. In addition other sector-specific plans identify a need for more skilled workers in industries including distribution, tourism, fisheries, logistics, crafts and agriculture.

The British Council is working in partnership with representatives from these sectors. Our aim is to support the development of new education and qualification systems that meet the needs of local employers, produce highly-skilled workers and fulfil the ambitions of the PNEI.

Aerospace industries

In June 2014, the British Council launched a new partnership between the Supply Chain Foundation (SCF) and the Confederation Generale des Entreprises Marocaines (CGEM).

Together we will develop a new qualification and training system for supply chain management professionals within the aerospace industry.

The new system will cover the national higher and further education systems. It will also provide training for current employees (both residential and on-the-job) and will recognise prior learning.

The partnership is focused on three key areas:

  • Alignment of all local players involved in the execution of supply chain management training and qualification including CGEM, OFPPT, training institutes and relevant government ministries.
  • Designing an affordable, high-quality training and qualification system that meets the current needs of the industry, the institute and the student.
  • Building capacity of local trainers and qualifications officials by ‘training the trainers’ and building a strong support infrastructure comprising technological solutions.

Textile and leather industries

In 2011, the British Council launched a partnership between Doncaster College and l’Ecole Superieure des Industries du Textile et de l’Habillement (ESITH). Our aim was to improve the quality and relevance of curriculum in both institutions. We developed new employer engagement strategies and shared best practice in resource development and quality assurance systems.

The partnership resulted in many positive outcomes including:

  • New modules in warehousing, enterprise development and virtual merchandising added to the curriculum.
  • Introduction of a new quality assurance system for teaching standards at ESITH.
  • Introduction of an annual international conference on quality assurance mechanisms.
  • International student and staff exchange opportunities.
